**Energy:-**

The capacity of doing work is called the energy of the body. It S.I unit is joule and dimensional formula ML²T ¯² Energy are different form as Mechanical energy, solar energy, nuclear energy and sound energy

**Mechanical energy:-**

The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its motion, position or configuration is called mechanical energy.

### Machanical energy is of two type

- Kinetic energy
- Potential energy

**Kinetic energy:-**

The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its motion is called a kinetic energy it is represent by K, EK, K.E

#### Example:- Energy possessed by bullet fired form a gun, energy of wind

**Expression of kinetic energy:-**

considered a body of mass (m)moving with velocity (v) let a force (F) is applied on it which produce retardation a in the body \stop of the after covering distance S.

Then work done by the body before it is stoped

w=FS ———- equation(1)

**Newton’s 2nd low of motion**

F=ma

** Form equation (1)**

w= mas———equation(2)

**Using 3rd low of motion**

V²=a²+2as

a²=v²+2x(-a)x s

a²=v²-2as

2as =v²

[as = v²/2]** Form equation (2)**

w=m×1v²/2

[w= 1mv²/2]** This work done is stored in the form of kinetic energy**

w=K.E

[K.E = 1mv²/2]### **Potential energy:-**

Let a body of mass (m) be placed on a surface of earth when if raised through height (h) above the earth surface the work is done against the gravitational force this work done is stored in the form of gravitational potential energy of the body.

Therefore the gravitational potential energy of the body is equal to work done is rasing the body through height (h)

= Gravitational force ×displacement

U = mg×h
